Car shopping in France as expats has been quite the adventure, full of both challenges and unexpected discoveries. When we left Paris, we were fortunate enough to rent a brand-new 2023 Volvo SUV with just 15 km on the odometer, and it was love at first drive. The Volvo perfectly balanced comfort, style, and functionality, setting a high standard that made it hard to consider anything else.
Finding a car that comfortably fits Jon, who stands tall at 6'5" (196 cm), is a top priority. Legroom is critical for our long drives across Europe, and the Volvo's spacious interior spoiled us. We know our next car has to meet or exceed that level of comfort.

It isn't just legroom we are after. With a two-month road trip ahead, we need a vehicle that can handle all our luggage and personal items. The car has to be large enough to fit everything without turning every drive into a game of Tetris. The Volvo’s ample cargo space has set the bar high, and we are determined not to compromise.
Adding to our list of requirements, we need a sturdy tow hitch to carry two e-bikes, essential for our dream of exploring Europe on two wheels.

In contrast, our recent experience with a rented Peugeot sedan was disappointing. The get-up-and-go was lacking, and the interior layout was uncomfortable for both of us. Visibility was another issue, with difficulty seeing out of the front, side, and rear windows. We quickly agreed that a Peugeot is not in our future.
As we continue to navigate the French car market, we will balance our love for the Volvo with our practical needs. Despite the challenges, we remain determined to find the right car that will meet all our requirements.
