Our Story

We’re Jen and Jon, and we created this space to share our journey—from dreaming about life in Europe to making it a reality, and eventually returning to the U.S. under very different circumstances. Our hope is that our experiences can help guide others who are considering an international move and ease the transition, no matter how overwhelming it might initially seem. With a mix of patience, organization, and persistence, what once felt like an impossible leap can become a meaningful new chapter. We managed to do it—and so can you.

Our relocation journey began in early 2023, shortly after returning from a two-week Mediterranean cruise that left us inspired by nearly every port we visited. Enthralled by the history, architecture, and slower rhythms of life, we began seriously considering a move abroad. Initially drawn to Montenegro, we soon realized that while it was beautiful, it might lack some of the infrastructure and healthcare services we were looking for. We explored a wide range of countries—Greece, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France, and Portugal—diving deep into their visa processes, healthcare systems, and overall livability.

After extensive research, we chose France as our new home. Its accessible healthcare system and straightforward visa process were decisive factors. We spent nearly a year preparing for the move, pouring over videos, photos, and first-hand accounts of different French cities until we found ourselves drawn to Bordeaux, moving there in June 2024. It felt like the right blend of culture, charm, and opportunity for a fresh start.

However, life has a way of changing plans.

In December 2024, we returned to the United States so Jon could undergo chemotherapy treatment. Despite his strength, resilience, and determination, Jon lost his hard-fought battle with cancer in February of 2025. His courage through it all continues to inspire me every day.

Though our time abroad was shorter than we imagined, it was deeply meaningful—and we remain grateful for every moment, every lesson, and every connection we made.

I, Jen, will continue writing here, sharing new adventures and reflections, always with Jon in my heart. This blog will remain a tribute to the life we built together and a space to keep exploring the world in his honor.
